Vladimir Putin launches major engineering production facility within MMK Group

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin took part in the official launch of a new mechanical engineering workshop at Mechanical Repair Complex, part of the MMK Group. The launch ceremony was also attended by Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Ural Federal District Artyom Zhoga, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Teksler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMK Viktor Rashnikov, and CEO of MMK Pavel Shilyaev.
The facility we have launched today is unique not only for our plant but for the entire Russian industry. In essence, this is a fully autonomous production site focused on manufacturing domestic products — most of which were previously not produced in our country. This enables us to meet a significant share of MMK’s internal demand, while also supplying import-substituting equipment to other Russian companies and to CIS markets. In addition, more than 450 new jobs have been created here, said Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMK.
The new workshop's production capabilities include special-purpose overhead cranes with lifting capacities exceeding 150 tons; iron, steel, and slag carriers with capacities of up to 500 tons; converter shells and support rings; steel and iron ladles with capacities ranging from 50 to 350 tons of molten metal; blast furnace shells; 600-ton mixers and mixer cars. The facility is also capable of manufacturing rotary kilns, grinding mills, heavy-duty dump truck bodies with payloads up to 225 tons, and equipment for continuous casting machines.
The 31st International Industrial Exhibition Metal-Expo is taking place from 11 to 14 November 2025 at the Expoforum in Saint Petersburg, with the participation of around 800 Russian and international companies. The forum will showcase the entire spectrum of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy products, as well as state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The Metal-Expo is attended by consumers of metal products from the construction industry, mechanical engineering, the fuel and energy sector, and transport, logistics and metal trading companies. The forum's programme will feature over 50 conferences, seminars and round tables covering all segments of the metallurgical business. MMK company will participate in this exhibition. Their stand will be located in Hall F.
